National and international NGOs are successfully addressing the problem of munitions in the sea. Their role as interfaces between society and decision-makers at the national and regional levels is vital. Depending on their strategic focus, NGOs intend to cooperate with science, provide independent insights for the comprehensive handling of munitions in the sea or lobby for investments in a better future. Their intermediary function is central to the diverse approaches for solving all kinds of problems related to munitions in the sea.
